River View boys swim to first place finish
River View’s boys and girls swimming competed in the 2020 South Eastern Ohio Swim League Championship meet at Kenyon College on Feb. 1. River View won in the boys competition, while the girls placed fourth.
Points were awarded through 10 places in each event, and medals were awarded to the top three. The River View boys took home medals in eight events, including all three in the 50 Freestyle event. Medalist honors went to Reas Pepper, who won both the 200 (1:56.37) and 50 Free (23.68); Cole Tatro, who won the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.67), and placed second in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.97); JT Roberts, second (24.00), and Lincoln Shroyer, third (24.26), in the 50 Free; Brayden Karr, third in the 100 Fly (1:04.16); Brady Philabaum, third in the 100 Backstroke (1:01.38); the first place Medley Relay of Philabaum, Karr, Tatro, and Roberts (1:49.12); the first place 200 Free Relay of Roberts, Karr, Shroyer, and Pepper (1:35.32); and the first place 400 Free relay of Coen Bible, Philabaum, Tatro, and Pepper (3:38.27).
Also scoring in events, Ahmed Perez was sixth (2:07.95), Zachariah Phillips eighth (2:10.71), and Brice Cross 10th (2:13.85) in the 200 Free. Philabaum was fourth (2:23.35), and Brody Fischer ninth (2:45.17) in the 200 IM. Bible was sixth (24.82) in the 50 Free. Andrew Martin was sixth (1:13.71), and Jonathon Vu seventh (1:14.15) in the 100 Fly. Roberts was fourth (54.48), Bible fifth (55.16), and Luke Massie ninth (57.47) in the 100 Free. Perez was fifth (6:07.15), Phillips sixth (6:12.42), Evan McPeak eighth (6:20.87), and Cross ninth (6:21.10) in the 500 Free. Massie was seventh (1:05.18) in the 100 Back. And Karr was fifth (1:11.49), and Gavin Donnell seventh (1:16.01) in the 100 Breaststroke.
Medaling for the River View girls was Berta Vidal, who won the 500 Free (5:34.72), and was second in the 200 IM (2:15.59), and Lindsey Ashcraft, third in the 100 Fly (1:10.11).
They had additional points from the fourth place (2:07.24) 200 Medley Relay of Vidal, Aliya Stevens, Ashcraft, and Rachyl Smalley; the fourth place (1:53.98) 200 Free Relay of Vidal, Micaela White, Smalley, and Ashcraft; and the fifth place (4:34.87) 400 Free Relay of MaryAnn Lozowski, White, Katie Hardesty, and Rachel Vandenbark. Vandenbark was also seventh (2:32.16) in the 200 Free, and 10th (1:05.83) in the 100 Free. Smalley was sixth (1:16.89) in the 100 Back and Ashcraft was fourth (1:15.28) in the 100 Breast.
