2015 Memorial Day services scheduled for Coshocton County
Coshocton Parade & Services will be held on Monday, May 25. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Main and Eighth streets. Services will be held on the court house lawn immediately following the parade. The speakers will be River View High School Senior Voice of Democracy Winner Elizabeth Lozowski; Blue Star Mothers representative Becky Bowden; and Liz Herrell, USAF Retired. There will be a tribute to our fallen comrades, who have passed away since Memorial Day 2014, which the Coshocton County Honor Guard members performed military services. The 3MP Quartet of the Sweet Adelines International will perform a patriot selection. Female veterans are invited to attend for a special recognition.
133rd annual Keene Parade & Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 24. During the morning there will be a veterans memorial church service at 9:30 a.m., Phyllis Debnar, resident of Coshocton County will be speaking about her father, Raymond Pew who is a WWII Spec 5 Army Air Corp veteran. Lunch and beverages will be served at the church from 10:30 a.m. to noon provided by the Keene United Methodist Church Relay for Life Team. At noon, Lister Endsley will be the grand marshall for the second oldest continuously held Memorial Day Parade in Ohio since 1882. The Walhonding Rube Band & Coshocton County Sheriff’s Department will be leading the parade to both cemeteries and veterans’ monument in Keene. The Warsaw American Legion Post #634 will provide the 21-gun salute.
Honoring Armed Forces at Plainfield will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The speaker will be Chris Hart, Roscoe Village Program Development Specialist and a College Professor specializing in pharmacy matters. The Ridgewood High School band and choir as well as the Plainfield United Methodist Church Choir will participate. Community members will read the GAR Rituals from the Book of Service and veterans recognitions. Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard will also participate. Weather permitting services will be held at Plainfield Cemetery; in case of inclement weather, services will be at the Plainfield United Methodist Church.
Blissfield Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The speaker will be Gary Fischer, Coshocton County Commissioner. The Killbuck VFW #7079 will conduct military graveside services in honor of Omar Keith Chaney who died March 21, 2015. Chaney was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. The Walhonding Rube Band will provide music. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Blissfield United Methodist Church.
Walhonding Valley-Warsaw Parade & Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 25. The parade will assemble on Railroad Street then continue on Main Street in Warsaw and services will immediately follow at Valley View Cemetery with speakers River View High School Senior Voice of Democracy Winner Elizabeth Lozowski and Larry Pew, Vietnam Veteran, as well as music provided by the Walhonding Rube Band.
Conesville Memorial Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 25, at the park. Community members will read the names of area veterans listed on the plaques.
