2017 Memorial Day services planned for Coshocton County
Coshocton parade and services will be held on Monday, May 29. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Main and Eighth streets. Services will be held on the court square immediately following the parade. The speakers will be Blue Star Mothers representative Becky Bowden and main speaker John Moon, past national, state and district VFW commander. There will be a tribute to our fallen comrades who have passed away since Memorial Day 2016, which the Coshocton County Honor Guard members performed military services.
135th annual Keene parade and services will be held on Sunday, May 28. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., a veterans’ memorial church service will be held at Keene United Methodist Church with featured speaker Air Force Lt. Col. Brian D. Golden. The Keene Methodist Youth Fellowship will serve a lunch from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the church fellowship hall. The veterans’ memorial parade will start at noon led by Grand Marshall Lister Endsley, Walhonding Rube Band and the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Department. Held since 1882, Keene is recognized as the second oldest continuously held Memorial Day Parade in Ohio. The Warsaw American Legion Post #634 will give a 21-gun salute at both cemeteries and the veterans’ monument.
Honoring armed forces at Plainfield will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m. The speaker will be Nick Schmidt with Home Loan Savings Bank. The Ridgewood High School Band and choir as well as the Plainfield United Methodist Church Choir will participate. Community members will read the GAR Rituals from the Book of Service and veterans’ recognitions. Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard will also participate. Weather permitting services will be held at Plainfield Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, services will be at the Plainfield United Methodist Church.
Blissfield Services will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m. The speaker will be Larry Pew, U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, at the Blissfield Cemetery services. The Killbuck VFW #7079 will conduct military graveside services in honor of Owen L. Towner, Korean War veteran who passed away on Feb. 6, 2017. The Walhonding Rube Band will provide music. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Blissfield United Methodist Church.
Walhonding Valley-Warsaw parade and services will be held on Monday, May 29 at 1 p.m. The parade will assemble on Railroad Street then continue on Main Street in Warsaw and services will immediately follow at Valley View Cemetery with speakers River View High School Voice of Democracy Speaker Isabella Heddleson and main speaker Richard Guess, US Air Force Vietnam Veteran. Annie Bosson and Josie Fornara will sing the National Anthem as well as music provided by the Walhonding Rube Band.
Conesville memorial services will be held on Monday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the park. Community members will read the names of area veterans listed on the memorial wall and the main speaker is to be announced.
