65th Warsaw Lions Club Show coming up

| November 12, 2024

The 65th Warsaw Lions Club Show theme is titled One Hit Wonders this year, signifying a person or group that is known only for a single notable song.

“You may hear some One Hit Wonders in our show that you have heard a popular artist sing but another artist performed it first and it was just one hit for them,” said Audrey Phillips executive producer and Warsaw Lions Club president.  “We have music from all genres, rock and roll, classics and country. The chorus will be wearing sapphire shirts for the 65th year. The show features talent from folks who have auditioned for the show to sing a solo and six choir members filling in with the featured talent.”

On Saturday night of the show, the River View High School Certified Gold choir will sing. On Sunday of the show, a couple students will be filling that spot.

“Then there are the infamous interruptions by Jesse Whinnery and Jesse Buxton, the Comedy Crew Wranglers,” Phillips said. “The comedy crew consists of six men and two women. They tell jokes and do interruptions or skits in between acts and unexpectedly. I don’t even know when until the night of the show.”

Buxton said, “I did the show with my dad (Bob ‘Corncob’ Buxton) as a kid. I have been doing it darn near 40 years. It’s nice to be part of the show year after year again. It’s a joy, absolutely.”

Bob Buxton has been with the production for 52 years. “It’s a fun time,” he said. “We reach more people here and make them laugh for a while and it makes the show better. It’s a fun time for people to get together and laugh for an evening. Forget your troubles. ”

The show will be Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the River View High School auditorium. The RV Music Boosters will have a concession stand open with sandwiches, chicken noodle soup and other favorite goodies. A historical video of photos, pictures and such things from the past 65 years will play in the auditorium one hour before the show.

Tickets are $12 each and available online. If you see a show poster there are QR codes on them or table toppers at various restaurants where you can get the QR codes. Presale tickets for assigned seating are in the front half of the auditorium. General audience tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the show for seats in the back half of the auditorium. To purchase presale tickets go to https://warsawlionsshow.wixsite.com/home/general-1 or call 740-824-5048.

All of the money raised from the show goes right back into the community. The Lions Club is known for its sight saver program.
