67-year-old dies after motorcycle accident

On June 23, at approximately 1:52 p.m. the sheriff’s office received several 911 calls in reference to a motorcycle accident at the intersection of State Route 16 and Franklin Twp Rd 287.

Upon arrival of emergency personnel it was found that 64-year-old Sherman Howell of Coshocton was operating his 2016 Chevrolet traveling westbound and was stopped in traffic. Also traveling westbound on State Rt. 16 was 67-year-old Russell Fleming of Hampstead, Md. Fleming was operating his 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle when he failed to notice the Howell vehicle stopped in front of him. Fleming collided with the rear of the Howell vehicle and was ejected from the motorcycle. Fleming was transported to Genesis Medical Center in Zanesville where he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the accident. There were no injuries reported in the Howell vehicle.

Assisting at the scene was the Conesville Fire Dept., Coshocton County EMS, REACT, and Prince’s Wrecker Service.
