River View High School Senior Madalyn Cutshall signed a letter of intent on Nov. 23 to play golf for Division II Ohio Valley University in Parkersburg, West Virginia. At a ceremony held in the school library she was joined by her parents, Clayton Cutshall and Kara Bush, family members and coaches, Sean Nicely and Bill Stufflebean.
Madalyn started golfing at 7-years-old when her grandpa Robert DeWitt bought her some clubs.
“I was so excited I actually cried,” she said.
“Both of us are very proud,” Clayton said. “She has come a long way with just a sport she started with her Grandpa. We’re thankful for past coaches and every family member that took her out. Everyone looked at it like it was just for fun but it was more time on the course for her.”
“She never complained about getting up so early for a match or tournaments,” Kara said.
“My grandma would take me out even though she doesn’t golf. My dad plays a little. I’ve been golfing my whole life,” Madalyn said. She started playing for Coshocton but CHS needed to team up with River View to have enough players. She then moved to River View for their golf program. “So I have been with River View the whole time.” Her best memory is when she eagled and had four birdies all in the same tournament.
Girls coach Sean Nicely said Madalyn had a good year. “She’s been a good leader for the team. With continued work, she should be a successful college golfer.”
Coach Bill Stufflebean, her coach for her first three years, said she is a long ball player. “She hits the ball well off of the tee and this will help her greatly in the NCAA Division II.
Madalyn will be joining the Goins sisters and Marie Stufflebean at Ohio Valley.
“It will be very local and that’s pretty cool. I wish her the best of luck but I don’t think she’ll need it,” Bill said.
