It’s time to soar to new heights
The Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival takes off this weekend at the fairgrounds, returning after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering all the fun and thrills that you would expect. This event is a terrific family focused opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy early June in Coshocton County. Take advantage of it and remember – the balloon launches, and flying are weather dependent. Thanks to all of the volunteers, community sponsors and especially the Frontier Power Company for making this event possible!
Using the headline somewhat as a play on words, many things are soaring to new heights – the economy, our community, people’s moods (thank goodness!) and dare I say, our national debt. It is always a balancing act between what the government feels is needed to spur the economy, or to keep the country from going backwards too far. It is a difficult job for anyone and not one that many people would want. It appears that our leaders are trying to work together and come up with compromises that can hold taxes at bay yet provide monies for programs and infrastructure.
The Coshocton Kiwanis Club is celebrating 100 years of serving our community and throughout the past century of helping young people, thousands of men and women from Coshocton County have filled the membership roster. Congratulations to the Coshocton Kiwanis Club!
It’s time to make hay and as you travel throughout the county, you will see lots of mowed fields as the weather in May proved to be almost ideal for pasture and hay growth. Gardens are taking off and of course, those not so wonderful cousins to the vegetables we like, the things called weeds, are also soaring to new heights in early summer. It seems that the ideal growing weather is also good for that.
The major league baseball season is one third completed and the Indians are three games back of the White Sox as I write this column. The Cubs are in first in the National League Central with the Reds and Pirates fourth and fifth, respectively. While these teams show signs of improvement from time to time it just doesn’t seem to be enough to surpass the leaders in that division. It looks like a battle is brewing between the Giants, Dodgers and Padres in the NL West.
Can we please be a bit more cautious with our driving? Over the past 10 days, I have witnessed not one, not two, but three different drivers roll through a red light at an intersection. Note, I said, “roll through,” not just accelerate a bit to make it through. Obviously, something is taking the attention away from safe driving habits. It could make for a really bad day for a lot of folks. While we can all be distracted from time to time in today’s hectic world, let’s all do our best to look out for others in our community. The summer driving season is here and that means lots more kiddos out and about. Let’s do what we can to ensure they have a safe summer. Thanks!
