Piano competition winners named
On Sunday evening, June 6 at the Roscoe Village Foundation Visitor Center, five finalists performed on the Montgomery piano before a panel of five judges to determine the junior division and senior division winners of the 33rd annual Edward E. Montgomery Jr. Piano Competition.
Due to the pandemic the competition was moved again this year from the Triple Locks Theater where it had been an annual event. However, this did not dampen the spirited competition among the finalists.
Kennedy Kittell, the daughter of Tiffany and Kevin Kittell and a 10th grade student at Coshocton High School emerged as the winner of the senior division performing “Maple Leaf Rag.” She received a $1,000 cash award from The Montgomery Foundation.
Kenley Hayes, the daughter of Melissa and Biff Hayes, a seventh grade student at Newcomerstown Middle School was the victor in the junior division with her performance of “Album for the Young, Knight Rupert.” Kenley was awarded $250 cash from The Montgomery Foundation.
The 2022 competition is currently scheduled for Sunday, April 3 and returning to the Triple Locks Theater.
