Library hosting Tails and Tales for children and teens

The Coshocton Public Library’s summer reading program is in full swing, and families are taking advantage of the fun, excitement and learning that each animal antic session is providing.
Cyndi Shutt, youth services coordinator for the library, said all of the animal Antics sessions are booked, but she wants to encourage people to call if they are interested, as cancellations do happen. “We are so excited to finally be back to in-person programming. We have missed the children and their families.”
Activities are planned for children up to 12 years old on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday during the day and also Wednesday evenings. The West Lafayette Branch offers the sessions on Tuesday. Every week has a different theme, such as Let’s Go on a Safari, Time Travel to Dinosaurs, Backyard Heroes and more. Programming runs through the week of July 22.
Each session includes books, songs, games and crafts and centers around that week’s theme. The week of June 7, the theme was Let’s Go on a Safari. Renata Skelley brought her four children to one of the sessions. “We love the library program. It helps with their reading, and they love seeing the library staff and singing songs. It’s something fun to do during summer break.”
Lily Skelley, 12, said the liked the safari the best. They had a list of animals and had to walk around the room to find all of the animals. Kyndal Skelley, 9, also liked the safari the best. “We got to wear hats and look for the animals.” Six-year-old Reagan liked the stickers the best and two-year-old Ian enjoyed pointing out the animals to his mom and library staff.
Teen programming is every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on the grassy area beside the library, if the weather is nice. If the weather is bad, programming is in the small meeting room. Teen “Paws” to Craft sessions are June 16 (LOL letter decoupage), 23 (Candy Sushi) and July 14 (Tie-dying) from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The West Lafayette branch offers Teen Time on June 17, July 15 and Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
Shutt wanted to thank all of the local businesses who are so generous with donations toward the summer reading program. “We simply couldn’t do it without their support.”
