Local singers chosen for Cardinal Chorale
The Cardinal Chorale has chosen some local singers for membership in the 26th edition of its mission as “Choral ambassadors of hope.” Alexis Caley, Sam Corbett, Peyton (Olivia) Crouso, Dawson Ford, Ryan Gildow, Hunter Gonter, Julia Grimmett, Everett Hall, Grace Hawthorne, Jacob Heading, Sarah Heading, Lauren Johnson, Dakota Kealiher, Kennedy Kittell, Anna Richcreek, Kailyn Shalosky, Aidan Stevens-Woolery, Connor Stevens-Woolery, Liam Stevens-Woolery, Sydney Stewart, Sheldon Stotts, and Quentin Wherley will be among the auditioned singers from across Ohio who will participate in the eight-day Cardinal Chorale Music Workshop, July 17-24 on the campus of Muskingum University, in New Concord. They represent Coshocton, Ridgewood and River View school districts. Other Chorale members come from around the state, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Indiana.
Area staff members include: Michael Belt, John Bordenkircher, Michael Border, Matt Downing, Elizabeth Ferris, Caroline Heading, Erin Jobes, Ann Leppla, Charles R. Snyder, Mark Wagner, and Connor Wheeler.
In a time when many adolescents and young adults have missed milestones because of the pandemic, twelve singers who ordinarily would have “aged out” have been invited back for a bonus year. They will provide the foundational leadership that will undergird the success of the Chorale.
The Chorale’s Workshop will be led by the Chorale staff and artistic director Charles R. Snyder, Coshocton. Snyder is the music director and conductor of the Coshocton Community Choir, a 100-voice auditioned ensemble he founded in 1971. He also conducts The Coshocton Singers, a regional choir for young singers in grades four to eight that he organized in 1987. In 2002, he created the Coshocton Youth Chorale, a high school ensemble that includes 56 singers from several counties. A faculty member of Muskingum University’s annual Choral YouthFest from1993-2016, Snyder has also been a member of Muskingum’s voice faculty. In the spring of 2005, Snyder was on the Muskingum campus, teaching voice and serving as director of choral activities during the sabbatical of Professor Robert Owen Jones.
After converging at Muskingum on July 17, Chorale members will spend eight days in rehearsals, preparing a performance for their families they will include some of the repertoire they will sing in concerts and take on tour during the 2021-2022 season.
The theme for this year’s Workshop is titled “Let There Be Music,” and is designed to lift the spirits of audience members and to celebrate the opportunity to create music together again.
