Hospital organizes family fun day

Coshocton Regional Medical Center hosted a free community fun day on Aug. 7.

The first 100 kids got a t-shirt. Two scheduled activities included MedFlight landing at 11 a.m. and the Coshocton Sheriff’s Office had a K-9 demonstration at noon. The event also offered a crowd favorite – free food including chips, cookies, hot dogs, popsicles, popcorn, drinks and giveaways too.

The event had free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings plus a squeeze ball for the kids and costumed characters giving hugs.

Kids got to meet first responders and check out the emergency vehicles. Coshocton EMS, Tri-County EMS, MedFlight and Coshocton Sheriff’s Office were represented. Coshocton Firefighters Zach Elson and Ryan Conkle answered questions and handed out stickers while letting everyone check out their department’s new truck.

Dave Corbi, MedFlight pilot and Walley Stevens, head flight nurse for MedFlight based out of Coshocton’s airport helped kids get in and check out the helicopter and get a sticker. “There is always a pilot, nurse and paramedic on board,” Corbi said.

Coshocton Sheriff’s Office Detective Dave Stone and K-9  Henata were meeting people and answering questions – petting was allowed. “Henata is semi-retired,” Stone said. “She gets tired sitting at home. She still does apprehensions, tracking and article searches.”

The sheriff’s office also offered photo ID cards with thumbprints.
