Joseph L. Ridenbaugh
Joseph L. Ridenbaugh, 87, of Walhonding passed away at his home on Monday, October 11, 2021 surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 30, 1933 at home in Tiverton to the late Josiah A. and Mary M. (Hoberg) Ridenbaugh.
Joe spent his entire life in Tiverton Township where he and his wife Margaret farmed and raised their 4 children. In his early years, he enjoyed square dancing, playing baseball, golfing, pitching horseshoes, hunting, fishing and visiting with family and friends. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, golf, the Cincinnati Reds, NASCAR, the Ohio State Buckeyes and working on puzzles while watching for birds.
His work career started on the family farm and with the township before serving active duty in the US Army as a small arms repairman. Joe was stationed in Germany from 1954-1956 where he received a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1962 from the Army Reserves while working for Warsaw School as a bus driver and at the Warsaw Mill until he began in carpentry with Don Daliere Construction. In the early 1960’s, Joe also began his own carpentry business and for nearly 48 years specialized in residential construction; he also renovated various farm and orchard businesses, and worked on bridge and park projects for ODOT and the Ohio State Parks. He collaborated with businesses such as Wen-Mar Farms, McConnell Contracting and Glen Hill Orchards.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret C. (Mullett) Ridenbaugh of Walhonding, whom he married Dec. 26, 1958; his children, son Doug (Patti) Ridenbaugh of Coshocton, daughter Kim Sullivan of Walhonding, daughter Jody (Rob) Denkhaus of Hudson Oaks, TX, and daughter Robin (Doug) Schonauer of Walhonding; grandchildren, Randi (Clay) Cutshall of Coshocton, Tori Ridenbaugh of West Lafayette, Stephanie (Todd Melman) Callahan of New Albany, Ashley (Rob) Bourgeois of Bay St. Louis, MS, Corey (Ashley) Sullivan of Honolulu, HI, Ryan (Brittnay) Ridenbaugh of Orient, Karly (Ryan) Robinson of Aledo, TX, Kayce (Conner) Pulliam of Fort Worth, TX, Derek (Tania) Schonauer of Columbus, Evan (Chasidi) Schonauer of Columbus, and Brant (Sady) Schonauer of Granville; special nephew and family, Rick (Tami) Mullett of Conesville, Rowdi (Marissa) Mullett of Coshocton, and Raci (Tim) Zimpher of Anna; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers & sisters-in-law, Arthur & Lucille Ridenbaugh, John & Norma Ridenbaugh, and Dale & Emogene Ridenbaugh; a sister & brother-in-law, Marjorie & Arthur Corder; and a brother-in-law, Maurice Mullett.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021 at Tiverton Cemetery, with Pastor Ron Davis officiating, and military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
