Teen ejected from vehicle

On Dec. 9, 2021, at 1:49 p.m., the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office was informed by West Lafayette Police Department of an accident with injury in the area of County Road 16 near Lyons curve in Lafayette Township.

West Lafayette Police Department were the first to arrive on scene and advised a male subject was ejected from his vehicle. A short time later deputies and other emergency personnel arrived on scene. Deputies then conducted an investigation into the accident. During this investigation, it was determined that 18-year-old Hunter J. Bliss of Newcomerstown, was traveling west bound on County Road 16 when he lost control of his car, went left of center and struck a truck being driven by 63-year-old Jerold D. Lucas of New Concord. Bliss’s vehicle then went off the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in a ditch.

Bliss was transported from the scene by Coshocton County EMS to Coshocton Regional Medical Center and was later flown to Grant Hospital. This accident remains under investigation. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
