Memorial EMS education grant established
Harry Wilt was instrumental in the establishment of the Coshocton County EMS. Along with other community leaders he helped analyze the need and helped to plan and implement community-based EMS in Coshocton County through the formation of the Coshocton County Emergency Squad Association in the early 1970s. Wilt subsequently served a term as squad chief of the Coshocton squad and also a term as president of the county association.
Wilt was an active volunteer for the majority of his adult life – volunteer firefighter, volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, a volunteer EMT. It is in this spirit that his wife, Dortha W. Wilt, has established an endowed grant fund through the Coshocton Foundation for the express purpose of providing financial assistance for members (prospective or current) of Coshocton County EMS (CCEMS) to seek initial or advanced certification for CCEMS to offset costs of initial certification training.
Grant awards will be administered by a panel of the administration of CCEMS consisting of the director and the assistant chief of operations and a minimum of three members of the Coshocton Foundation’s Distribution Committee.
The Coshocton Foundation was established in 1966 through the last will and testament of local merchant Adolph Golden and has distributed more than $9 million in grants to community organizations from its unrestricted fund. In addition, the foundation has 170 restricted funds from which distributions are made for specific purposes.
