Army Navy provides monthly free breakfast to vets and first responders

| January 23, 2022
Each third Saturday of every month from 9-11 a.m. the Army Navy Garrison provides an all you can eat breakfast buffet free to all veterans and first responders, including EMT, fire, and law enforcement. The general public is welcome to the buffet as well for $5. The buffet typically includes scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, french toast sticks, sausage, hash browns, coffee, juice and milk.
“We like to give back to our community and it also helps build our membership,” said Kevin Freshwater, post commander. “It’s good for our local vets and while people are happy that we do it, it has become a social thing. They come in and talk with the other guys and it’s a reason to get out of the house. It’s hard to guess how many will come out so we make a good sized mess and then go from there. If we get more people we put more biscuits in the oven, scramble some more eggs and go from there.”
Kevin’s wife Kathie Freshwater and volunteers from the sons and daughter’s auxiliary come in to help.
“We have a couple of pretty good cooks,” Kevin said. “Other vets and a good group of officers help me out quite a bit too. We are a private club. If anyone in the public would like to come for the buffet, just ring the buzzer, and someone will let you in. So come on in and check us out.”
The building is handicap accessible. There is a ramp in the back where you can come in through the back door.
“Come in and try our food,” Kevin said. “I think we have the best burgers in town and the most reasonable prices. The club has daily specials through the week and is open to the public for lunch and dinner 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. We typically have a band every Saturday night as well, which is open to the public.”
The Army Navy is the oldest active veterans organization in the country. The Army Navy Garrison 628 is located at 133 S. Sixth St. beside the Home Loan Branch in Coshocton.
