Grant helps support summer programing

| March 18, 2022

Since 2017 Clary Gardens, the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum and the Pomerene Center for the Arts have collaborated with the Coshocton Public Library to offer children’s programming themed around the National Library Association summer reading theme. Roscoe Village became a part of the group in 2019.

Before these five Coshocton county arts and culture organizations began working together, it was hard for families to navigate their summer programming. It seemed either too much was happening at once or not enough was going on. Summer sports have always been a great way for children and families to be together. But since this collaboration started, there’s another opportunity for meeting new families and forming new friendships. It’s not uncommon to hear people wish that organizations would work together more, and this project has been noticed by the likes of the Ohio History Connection and libraries around the state as a unique collaboration. Together this arts and culture collaboration provides an engaging educational offering every weekday for eight weeks in the summer.

The program got a big boost this year thanks to a grant from the Charles E. and Dorothy S. Bechtol Fund of the Coshocton Foundation. This grant has been set up as an annual gift and will allow the non-profit educational partner organizations to focus on programming and channel their limited human resources toward growth, accessibility and empowering the arts and culture community they are working to build.

Following the Library theme Oceans of Possibilities, Coshocton children and families will have the opportunity this June and July to explore the County of Possibilities. On Mondays in Roscoe Village — life’s possibilities as they used to be on the canal; on Tuesdays at Clary Gardens — the magical world of Harry Potter; on Wednesdays in the Pomerene artPARK — imaginary puppet worlds;  and on Fridays at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum — skills that different cultures used to improve their way of living and pave the way for a better future.
