Rascal Mobile unit helps area pets

Once a month pet owners can sign up ahead of time for the mobile PetVet Preventive Clinic that comes to Coshocton’s Tractor Supply store.
Courtney Timmons, volunteer, foster, and board member of Coshocton County Humane Society said, “We are doing our low cost spayed and neuter clinic today. The Rascal Mobile unit does that for us. We host them every month and it is open to the public.”
Rascal is a mobile veterinary unit that comes every month from Dublin, Ohio. Vets get the animals fixed, vaccinated and they get flea medicine and de-wormer. It is open to people from Coshocton and from out of county.
“Just bring the paper work and payment on the day of the clinic,” Timmons said. “They can bring their animals in the morning and when they are done and free from anesthesia they can be picked up on the same day. Cats and dogs and also rabbits can be fixed at a significantly low cost, much cheaper than a vet. We get a lot done in one day and it really is a blessing to the community.”
The Rascal Unit consists of two mobile veterinary hospitals based in Dublin, Ohio who travel throughout the state with the help of local humane organizations, pounds, and shelters to bring compassionate pet sterilization and routine veterinary care to individual pets in need.
“We bring the animals on the truck, we weigh them and do brief exams,” Timmons said. “The techs are in charge of distributing medications, assisting the doctors in anesthesia induction and we do a rotation of that all day long while the doctor is in surgery. There are two Rascal trucks in back of the store that are set up with three tables for surgeries. We’re always open to volunteers coming the day of the clinic because we can use a little help it does get hectic. We are always looking for volunteers and fosters. Fosters keep them in their homes until they are vetted or have room at the adoption center.”
The humane society has two programs, one is adoption, and the other is the clinic. Some of the Coshocton County Humane Society adoptable pets are at Tractor Supply.
“We come in every day and let them out to play while we clean their cages, crates, litter boxes and give them fresh water,” Timmons said.
Hannah Taylor volunteer said, “We have a lot of cats that come in and we vet them spay and neuter and find them a vet approved renter or owner approved home. We check everything out before giving them out for adoption. They’re loved. They get to play here. We’re nonprofit, so sometimes we have fundraisers to help take care of them. We have regular adoptions. Kittens under a year old can be adopted for a $60 fee and adult cats are $40. They are spayed and neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated if they need it and ready to go.”
