ArtPARK plans exciting summer activities
The schedule of activities for the artPARK for the summer is full of fun, family events.
Chalk and Roll will be held on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 1 p.m. According to Anne Cornell, director of the Pomerene Center, the chalk and roll is a bicycle decorating contest, parade and a time for everyone in the community to add a flower to a mural called A Thousand Flowers. “We will have materials available for people to decorate their bikes or they can bring them already decorated. We will also have plenty of chalk so everyone can draw their own flower on our mural.”
At 2 p.m., bikes will line up for a parade that will begin at 2:15 p.m.
The Dogwood Festival also will be held at the artPARK this spring. “It’s always been on the court square. We have this beautiful performance area, and we can get everyone in the space – either in the sun or shade. We really want to invite everyone into the artPARK. The acoustics are so good there.”
Box lunches will be available for a cost of $9. This year, the festival will only be held Monday, May 2 – Thursday, May 5. The music will be provided on Monday by the Newcomerstown High School band, Tuesday – Ridgewood High School, Wednesday – River View High School and Thursday – Coshocton High School. “It’s so important for the community to come and hear the kids and support them. It’s been such a tough few years for them and they work so hard,” Cornell said.
Davis Day, A Whimsical Day of Music, Art and Beer will be held on Saturday, June 4. Ben Davis Jr., an up and coming country music singer will provide music at 4 p.m. Vicky Davis, a local quilter, will be sharing her skills during the evening and Willie Nelson Mandela, a classic rock cover band will take the stage at 7 p.m.
The Wooley Pig Brewery is creating a special beer for Davis Day.
There will also be street dances on Saturday, June 11 (Latin), Saturday, June 18 (Jazz), and Saturday, June 25 (Polka). These dances will begin at 7 p.m. and Cornell is hoping to have lessons available starting at 6 p.m. for each type of dance.
On Wednesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 15, Stevens Puppets will be providing workshops during the day as part of the center’s educational programming. Each evening at 7 p.m., they will share a performance. This year, they will be performing “The Wizard of Oz.” Cornell said the workshops are family oriented and space in limited. Registration for the workshops is required at www.pomerenearts.org. “This is part of the summer collaborative between Clary Garden, the Coshocton Public Library and us called ‘If – Then’ and is funded by a grant from the Bechtol family, through the Coshocton Foundation.”
First Farm Friday will be held on Friday, Aug 5 and they will hold another “Fake Beach” Day on Saturday, Aug. 6. For more information, please check the center’s website.
