Youth fishing derby to be held May 7
Every spring, youth in our community look forward to the annual fishing derby at Lake Park. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bob Bigrigg, president of the Friends of the Parks, said that about $2,300 worth of fish will be put in the lake for youth to catch. Trout, bass and blue gill are just a few of the types of fish that will be placed in the lake.
“Registration starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.,” Bigrigg said. “Kids don’t have to be there the whole time, but to be eligible for prizes, they have to be registered by 1 p.m.” He said they have a large selection of door prizes, including all types of fishing tackle.
Every fish that measures 10 inches or more will earn a $10 prize. There will be three age groups: Ages 3-6 boys, 3-6 girls, 7-12 boys, 7-12 girls, and 13-16 girls and boys together. Each class will have a first, second and third place cash prize for the largest fish caught.
The event is free and will be held regardless of the weather.
