Helen (Green) Overholt
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, Helen (Green) Overholt, passed away at her home. Helen was married to her high school sweetheart, Francis for 71 years. She was the mother of four, Grandma to 11, and great-grandma to eight.
Helen was born on June 23, 1933, to the late Ellis and Pearl (McElfresh) Green in Monroe County, Ohio and she grew up in West Lafayette. After the four years Francis was in the Air Force, they returned to West Lafayette to raise their family.
Helen and Francis loved to dance and many pairs of shoes were worn out on the dance floor. Helen had a quick wit and often a smirk would be seen on her face when she teased or was being teased. Helen loved her flower gardens, her German Shepard dogs, traveling, reading, photography and organizing her photos into albums for herself, her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Girl Scouting was an important part of Helen’s life as she was a registered leader for 40 years, helping many young girls develop into strong, young women. Helen was proud to represent West Lafayette as senior homecoming queen in 2015. She loved traveling with the homecoming court as they represented the community at various local parades and festivals. Helen will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
Along with her husband, Francis of 71 years, Helen is survived by her four children, Steve (Marla) Overholt of Perrysburg, OH, Tina (Tim) Okel of Trafford, PA, Dave (Jody) Overholt of Granville, OH and Linda (Mike) Ondayko of West Lafayette, OH; 11 grandchildren, Brittany Overholt, Justin Overholt, Travis (Ashley) Okel, Tyler (Allie) Okel, Tiffany (Liz) Thayer, Chasity Overholt, Tori Overholt, Michael (Adrianna) Ondayko, Brandon Ondayko and Sean Ondayko; and eight great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Tucker, Colton, Sawyer, Jackson, Claire, Levi, and Odessa. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (Hershel) Prater of McArthur, Ohio.
Along with her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angela Overholt.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from noon to 2 p.m. at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastors Larry and Janie Hostetler officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
