| May 17, 2022

Gardeners and other lovers of fresh produce are often interested in extending the season’s bounty by preserving fruits and vegetables at home. Ohio State University Extension Family and Consumer Sciences educators teach home canning, freezing, and other methods of research-based food preservation.

Join Emily Marrison for hands-on classes this summer. The Making Pickles class will be Thursday, June 9 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Coshocton County OSU Extension Office, 724 S. Seventh St., Room 110, Coshocton, OH. The Making Salsa class will be Thursday, July 7 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Lock Landing in Roscoe Village, 600 N Whitewoman St., Coshocton, OH. Participants will leave with jars of pickles or salsa to enjoy. Each class is $5 and registration can be completed at go.osu.edu/coshfoodpreservation2022.

The OSU Extension Home Food Preservation Team is also offering the Savoring Ohio Produce Webinar Series all summer long.  These online classes emphasize the science behind preservation so that everyone who preserves fruits and vegetables understands why certain procedures must be followed precisely to ensure a high-quality, safe product that they and their family can enjoy. All online classes are Tuesday afternoons from 4-5 p.m. Topics include: May 31 – Onions and Herbs; June 14 – Greens; June 28 – Beans; July 26 – Peaches; Aug. 9 – Corn; Aug. 23 – Melon; Sept. 6 – Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts and Cauliflower; and Sept. 20 – Potatoes. Join OSU Extension educators for one or more of these free programs by registering at go.osu.edu/2022foodpreservationwebinarseries.
