Mills praises fire department at council meeting
“Mow your grass. Mow your grass. Mow your grass. You had to mow it last year and this year you still have to mow your grass,” said Mayor Mark Mills during the May 23 committee meetings. Mills expressed that he and the city are aware of the cemetery at South Lawn having water lines that are broken and pavement that needs fixed and he stated they are working on fixing the problems.
Mills expressed gratitude and appreciation for the Coshocton Fire Department’s exemplary job putting out the fire at Grace United Methodist Church in Coshocton on May 20. Mills also thanked the six other companies that showed up. Mills said there was 800,000 gallons of water used to put out the fire, and thankfully no one was hurt, including the fire fighters and first responders. Mills went on to give even more accolades to the fire department for running into something most people would have run out of when the ethanol plant had an explosion the night of May 20.
According to Mills Grace United Methodist Church has decided to fix their structure and are working out the details as to the best way to go about it. Similarly, he says the ethanol plant will fix their issues and are planning to open at some point. In addition, Mills explained he had an ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) interview last week and he wants the residents of Coshocton to know the road going to Zanesville will remain open during the construction period. “The westbound lane will always be open” he said as he encouraged residents to take State Route 60 to 541 when returning to Coshocton.
Spectrum 1 News was in Coshocton interviewing Mayor Mills and a representative from Our Town Coshocton regarding work being done on the Selby building and future plans for Coshocton. In addition, Mills mentioned a consulting and engineering firm was in town visiting and Our Town Coshocton is working on a proposal to obtain finances for a five-year plan to rebuild downtown.
Streets that were closed due to the May 20 fire at Grace United Methodist Church will reopen. However, the Chase parking lot beside the church will remain closed.
The next committee meetings will take place at 5:30 p.m. on June 13. The city council meeting is scheduled to follow at 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend or to view it online using YouTube.
