Coshocton community support of Camp Invention leads to 3rd regional location

| May 27, 2022

In Coshocton County, the opportunity for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines is expanding, as the commitment of residents and community leaders to provide the Camp Invention program continues to grow.

Through area organizations’ 2022 financial support, 225 local students will attend Camp Invention this year at three regional locations: Coshocton Elementary School, Coshocton, the week of June 6; Keene Elementary School, Coshocton, the week of June 13; Ridgewood Elementary School, West Lafayette, the week of June 20.

Camp Invention, the nation’s premier summer enrichment program for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade, is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Using hands-on activities, Camp Invention promotes STEM learning – as well as builds confidence, leadership, perseverance, resourcefulness and problem-solving skills – in a fun and engaging environment.

Spearheaded by the Coshocton Foundation, local organizations including The Montgomery Foundation; Joan Hartley Gross Memorial Fund of the Coshocton Foundation; The G. Saba & Sons Memorial Trust; McWane Ductile; Coshocton Rotary Club; and the following Coshocton Foundation funds — Edwin F. Mulligan Endowed Fund; Simpson Family Donor Advised Fund; Ralph D. & Judy P. Wisenburg Fund; Coshocton Kiwanis Club Fund; Pierce Family Fund; William and Sue Brown Donor Advised Fund; and Blessings Fund — have joined the effort to give local children a learning opportunity they could have otherwise missed.

“As a science teacher and having been involved with Camp Invention for eight years, I see that our K-six campers are being introduced to STEM concepts and skills that are in the high school curriculum,” said Barb Snyder, director of the camp at Coshocton Elementary School. “It is wonderful to have children introduced to these concepts so early. The disciplines the children are learning — critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and creativity — will benefit them throughout their lives.”
