Melenke publishes first book

| June 17, 2022
Lucy Bryan Melenke has published her first book, “In Between Places: A Memoir in Essays.” In her late 20s she was between two significant life experiences. Her marriage was over and her father had passed away due to cancer. She found herself losing faith. She was searching for the meaning of life, trying to feel connected, to find herself again and so she turned to the world to find meaning.
Her collection of essays take readers on a reflective journey to different locations in our country and new life experiences to help answer the questions she had. Some of her travels took her to Yosemite National Park, West Virginias Dolly Sods Wilderness and two essays are set right here in Coshocton County. She questioned why is it so hard to let go and finding love again. The essays are about marriage, having children as well as travel lecture, memories and essays on  meditation, grief, acceptance, change, empowerment, and belonging.
Melenke sees herself as a writer, mother, teacher, adventurer and naturalist. She divides her time between Coshocton County and Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley where she teaches writing at James Madison University.
Her essays have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and published in Quarterly West, Nashville Review, Earth Island Journal, Sojourners and she is known for her  work with Coshoctonians for Peace and Equality.
Melenke will be doing a public reading and book signing at the Wooly Pig Farm Brewery on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 7. The creative nonfiction book, “In Between Places: A Memoir in Essays” is coming out on June 21 from Homebound Publications.
