Camp Invention spreads to Ridgewood

| June 22, 2022

Camp Invention is a confidence-building STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) summer camp where kids build creative inventions designed to inspire confidence, persistence and improve reading skills.

Every day during Camp Invention at Ridgewood Middle School kids learned that their ideas matter and anything is possible. This program promotes a supportive environment with the idea that learning can be fun.

“This was Ridgewood’s first year to host Camp Invention and the outpouring of students coming has been tremendous. We have 90 campers registered. They send us everything we need and it’s all in boxes and everything is scripted out. The instructors are teachers, and we have high school student interns,” said Director Jaque McPherson.

She also was appreciative of everyone who donated to Camp Invention.

“We’re appreciative of all of the donors that have made it possible because our students only had to pay $35,” McPherson said. “The Coshocton Foundation and other groups that feed into the foundation supplied the rest of the funding for our kids to be able to come. It’s hands on, it’s all inventive and out of the box. Instead of spending the summer looking at their phones they can learn skills that will help when they are older and looking for jobs that don’t exist now.”
