James F. Nelson

James F. Nelson, 80, of Coshocton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 26, 2022, at his home after an extended illness.

Jim was born on July 24, 1942, in Detroit, MI to the late James C. and Genevieve (Rochleau) Nelson.

He was a true American Patriot and honorably served the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he received numerous awards including a Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two service stars, two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 11 Air Medals, and The Distinguished Flying Cross.

Jim attended the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, MN, and was brought to Coshocton with his job at Shaw Barton in 1977. Once Jim settled in Coshocton, he truly fell in love with the community and wanted to help wherever he could.  After his career at Shaw Barton, he was an Auctioneer and Real Estate agent with Century21 in Coshocton County throughout the rest of his life. He was a devoted member of Newpointe Community Church, previous President of the Coshocton Board of Realtors, longtime Chairman of the Coshocton Balloon Festival Board, member Coshocton United Way Board and the Board of RHDD.  Jim also was a past member of the Coshocton Towne and Country Club and Past District Chairman for the Yandata Boy Scout District. People will remember Jim announcing sporting events for Coshocton City Schools, especially Coshocton Basketball, Coshocton County Fair Livestock Auctions and the Canal Princess Contest.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Frances E. (Wright) Nelson; sons Jimmy, Scott (Jennifer) Nelson, and Ross (Darcy) Nelson; grandchildren Derek, Madelyn, Tucker, Judah, Brooklyn, Addy and Luke; great granddaughters Mallory and Keyari; siblings Dan (Linda) Nelson of WI, preceded in death by siblings Loanne (Don) Brazier and Lizette James both of MI; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Newpointe Community Church, 23801 CR 621, Coshocton, Ohio on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM where funeral services will begin at 6:00 PM with Chad Olinger officiating.  Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard will also be performing military honors.

A cremation will take place after the funeral services and his cremated remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC at a later date.
