| August 30, 2022

The United Way of Coshocton County announced Scott Edson as its new executive director effective Monday, Sept. 5. He will succeed Lyn Mizer who has served in this position for the past 11 years.

Following a statewide search, Edson was selected. Edson has more than 20 years of community outreach, recreation, and administrative experience. With a bachelor’s from Old Dominion University in recreation and leisure services, he most recently served as the Executive Director of the YMCA in Spotsylvania County Virginia. His greatest accomplishment is the amount of lives he helped enhance through youth, adult, special needs, community outreach and senior programs. Edson said, “My passion has always been about helping others, giving them an opportunity to develop and grow. But what I have found is that they have positively impacted my life which motivates me to keep doing the thing I love…helping others.”

Board President Steve Oster said, “Scott’s background in non-profit management, fundraising, community event, finance and strategic planning along with his professionalism will be a good fit for the United Way. He will have big shoes to fill, but Scott is up for the challenge and meeting people in the community.”

Edson will be responsible for the operations, agency goals and furthering the mission of the organization and to help create long lasting change not only by monetary donations, but also by building on relationships to advance the common good.  The United Way unites neighbors and resources to positively impact lives in Coshocton County and one donation reaches more than 30 programs and $.99 of every dollar donated stays here in Coshocton County.

Edson is originally from New Jersey but has lived in various parts of the country. He enjoys kayaking, hiking, woodworking and volunteering throughout our community. Scott’s wife, Lisa, was born and raised in Coshocton, but left to pursue a 23-year career serving the country in the US Navy. They have been married since 1995 and have one son named Kyle who lives in Florida and works for a biomanufacturing company. It has always been a goal of theirs to relocate back to Coshocton to be close to family and friends and they proudly made Coshocton County their home. Scott is looking forward to playing a huge part in making the community stronger and said, “I can’t wait to see how many lives enrich mine…Community is My Cause.”
