Donald Louis Balo
Donald Louis Balo, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 6, 1930 in Coshocton to the late Ralph Lester and Grace Marie (Paisley) Balo. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Mary Joanne (Shaw) Balo on Nov. 8, 1953, who preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2010. He was a member of the Conesville United Methodist Church.
Don was a member of several local clubs and organizations at different times over the years, including the Moose, Elks, Eagles, AmVets, and V.F.W. He was an employee at the former Cyclops in Coshocton, retiring from there after 25 years. He went on to work with his son at Balo Logging. He spent a number of years wintering at Paradise Park in Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed bowling, golf, camping, and boating. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland INDIANS(!) and enjoyed going to Clippers games.
He is survived by two sons, Terry (Kathy) Balo, and Donald Balo Jr. (Kelly McPherson), both of Conesville; two grandchildren, D.J. Balo of New Albany, and Erika Balo of Colorado; three step-grandchildren, Deena (Jeremy) Willis of North Carolina, Bryen Johnson of Warsaw, and Jeremiah (Vanessa) Johnson of Warsaw; step-great-grandchild, Micah Willis; two sisters, Etha Tatro Coshocton, and Marilyn (Kenny) Fuller of Conesville; a half-sister, Iris (James) Mercantile of Coshocton, a half-brother, Chris (Molly) Balo of Coshocton; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Simmons; a brother, Joseph Balo; half-sister, Rhonda DeBolt; and step-mother, Ida (Hawthorne) Balo.
Calling hours for Donald Balo will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15th at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16th at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Calkins officiating. A light lunch will follow at Conesville U.M.C..
Burial with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19th at Coshocton Co. Memory Gardens. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
