Stephen James Smalley

Stephen James Smalley, age 70, of Coshocton, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 with family and friends by his side. 

He was born on July 1, 1952, in Coshocton to the late James and Betty (Farmer) Smalley. Steve was a 1970 graduate of Coshocton High School. He then joined the United States Navy serving his country proudly from 1971 to 1975. Steve was stationed on the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier, and served three tours in Vietnam, with his final tour assisting in the evacuation of Vietnam. He then worked for AEP for 36 years before retiring. 

On September 30, 1972, he married the love of his life, Mary Beth (Siegrist) Smalley. Steve enjoyed woodwork and working in his workshop, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating and going to the beach. 

Steve is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Beth Smalley; his two children, Jessica (Rusty Holdsworth) Smith of Coshocton and Stephen Smalley Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL; three grandchildren, Aiden Smalley of Chicago, IL, Jackson Smith of Coshocton and Rhett Holdsworth of Coshocton. 

Along with his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Betty (Richard) Siegrist, his sister, Karen Wilke and his brothers-in-law, Bill and Bob Siegrist. 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A Celebration of life will follow at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. The family would like to invite all family and friends to a luncheon at the Boathouse Tavern, 51 Pine Street, Coshocton, following the Celebration of Life.
