Classes offered to assist farmers market vendors
A class regarding the production of Cottage Foods is scheduled for Thursday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coshocton County Services Building, 724 S. Seventh St. in Coshocton, Room 145.
Emily Marrison, family and consumer sciences educator at the Coshocton OSU Extension office, will be teaching this class. She specializes in food safety and food labeling and regulations. The main focus of this class will be the definition of Cottage Foods, what foods can be sold under this definition, review of the regulations in the State of Ohio for selling Cottage Foods including proper labeling, and the difference from a home bakery.
A second class regarding the selling of eggs and meat is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m., also at the Coshocton County Services Building. Marrison will cover the difference in regulations for selling these products from your home versus selling them at another location such as farmers markets.
Both classes are free and are highly recommended for anyone interested in selling these products at the Coshocton County Farmers Market in the 2023 season which begins Saturday, May 6 or to the public in general. For questions or more information, contact Marrison at 740-622-2265 or Becky Bowden at 740-327-2235.
