Pastor Royce to speak at next Lenten Luncheon

| March 13, 2023

The fourth event in the 52nd year of Coshocton County’s Lenten Lunches will be on Wednesday, March 15, at the Presbyterian Church. The lunch hour time from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. makes it possible for those who work nearby to participate.

The lunches offer soup, crackers, vegetables, cheese, pie or cake, coffee or water. Baskets are available on each table, and a $5 donation is asked for. After expenses, all proceeds will go to Church Women United to provide school clothing for county children who are in need.

Leaders for the six-week Lenten Lunches are Pastor Dick Hoover, Charles R. Snyder, and Church Women United, led by Christa Ciotola and Kay Dunfee. Two churches provide the food each week.

Pastor Stew Royce from Coshocton’s Central Christian Church will be the speaker, and Jeff Queen will provide special music.

Royce was born and raised in Canada. His family has a long history with the Disciples of Christ denomination, and he was involved in church growing up. He attended Sunday School during his childhood years, and as a teenager participated in youth group activities.

In his early 20s, he started out in the newspaper business and later responded to God’s call into pastoral ministry. Leaving his newspaper career, Royce attended the University of Western Ontario in Canada, completing his B.A. in 2000. Then he began training for ministry at Lexington Theological Seminary. During this time, Royce also ministered to a rural church in Kentucky while completing his Masters of Divinity degree.

Ordained in 2004, Royce served three Disciples congregations in different regions throughout the United States before coming to Central Christian. He began his ministry in Coshocton just over a year ago, in February 2022. He enjoys serving at Central, with a congregation that desires to be active in the community, and passionate about sharing the gospel.

Royce will speak on “The Forgiving Heart,” focusing on Colossians 3:12-14.

The fifth luncheon will be on March 22 with Emmanuel Lutheran Church’s pastor Bryan Kittner, and the sixth and final luncheon will be on March 29 with Pastor Bob Mitchell of Roscoe United Methodist Church.
