Mitchell to speak at final luncheon of Lent season

| March 27, 2023

The sixth and final Coshocton County Lenten Lunch of this 52nd year will be Wednesday, March 29, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. in the fellowship hall of The Presbyterian Church, 142 N. Fourth St. in Coshocton.

Church Women United, currently led by Christa Ciotola, will prepare crackers, vegetables, cheese, coffee and water. Pies and workers will be provided by Roscoe United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church. The soup will be made by Mike Cihon’s students at the Coshocton County Career Center, and the Salvation Army is donating the ingredients. The suggested meal donation is $5. All proceeds after expenses will go to Church Women United for their Clothe a Child Project. In recent years they have been able to contribute several thousand dollars to this worthy project in our county.

Bee Lehner will read the day’s scripture, Luke 24:28-35, and introduce the speaker. The Roscoe UMC pianist, Maxine Scott, will accompany the hymn “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” and play “Panis Angelicus” (Bread of Angels), arranged by Cesar Franck. Roscoe UMC pastor, the Rev. Bob Mitchell, will speak on “The Burning Heart,” the sixth look at “Matters of the Heart.”

Pastor Mitchell was appointed to Roscoe United Methodist Church in July 2021, with a 20-year history of growing congregations, mission and ministry.  Pastor Bob is joined by his wife Carey, son Jonah, who is currently attending Baldwin Wallace and preparing for ministry, Kobe (17), Maggie (16), three Guinea pigs, Eleanor, Bubbles and Reese, and a chronically-anxious rat snake named Steve. Bob has served throughout the East Ohio Conference, with UMC churches in Woodsfield, Loudonville, Delaware, Canfield and Massillon. Bob, as an Ordained Elder with master’s degrees in both Christian Education and Divinity, has worn many hats. He has provided care as a local chaplain for police/firefighters/EMTs, written Christian Education curriculum, served as a prison chaplain among teenage delinquents, and has been a crisis counselor, to name a few.

As a former Buddhist (once upon a time), Pastor Bob has an understanding of life on the outside of our faith – and a heart for sharing God’s radical grace and love. He enjoys making visitations, leading Bible studies, prayer groups, worship services, children’s ministry, youth ministry and everything else associated with his work. Bob and his family have loved their adoption by the Roscoe United Methodist Church, as the whole church family is experiencing new growth, mission and wonderful ministry.

Many are making the six-week series possible, including Christa Ciotola and Kay Dunfee for scheduling food and kitchen workers; Carol Todd, Nancy Cox, and Judy Corbett, greeters; and Tina Johnson for preparing worship guides. Alice Hoover has been gracious in playing the piano when needed, and custodians John Addy and Jeff Dickerson have taken care of many needs. Pastor Richard Hoover and Charles R. Snyder have joined Christa Ciotola on the planning committee, and The Presbyterian Church has again been our gracious host, something it has been doing since 1986.
