Physical therapist will use yoga as a method of treatment

Stephanie Carter Kelley, PhD, PT, OCS, CYI has been a physical therapist for more than 30 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University, her master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Miami, and her PhD in Education from Ohio University.

During her academic career she taught physical therapy students at both the master’s and doctorate levels at The Ohio State University, College of Mt. St. Joseph, and the University of Toledo. Her main teaching assignments were in the orthopedic curriculum which included functional anatomy, kinesiology, examination, manual skills, and therapeutic exercise. She also conducted research in musculoskeletal outcomes and in 2007 was published in Physical Therapy Journal.

Along with teaching students, she has taught advanced skills through continuing education to practicing physical therapists and more recently, yoga teachers. She has also taught examination of the spine and core stabilization for both the low back and neck.

In 2002 she was selected as Physical Therapist of the Year by the Ohio Physical Therapy Association. In 2005 she received her Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She became a 240-hour Hatha certified yoga instructor in October 2010.

As a physical therapist, she uses yoga as the primary method of treatment for chronic pain. This practice recognizes the interaction of mind, body and spirit and addresses each to achieve optimal health. Kelley is currently accepting new patients at Coshocton Regional Medical Center’s Outpatient Rehab Services clinic located at 311 S. 15th St. in Coshocton.
