Shirley Ann Fortune
Shirley Ann Fortune, 87, of Coshocton passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Altercare of Coshocton. She was born in Coshocton County on July 3, 1935 to the late Gaylon and Ruth (Stiteler) Wilson.
Shirley was a graduate of Coshocton High School and was a lifelong member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church where she was also active with United Methodist Women, Phi Chi Class, and taught Sunday School Class for 50 years. Many will remember Shirley from her time as the office manager for Carton’s Shoes for many years, which was how she met her husband. Shirley spent many years alongside Pinky at Fortune’s Boot Shop. When she wasn’t at the boot shop she enjoyed bowling, card club, selling Dutchmaid Clothing, tending to her garden, and babysitting; she was known as “Grandma Shirley” to many children other than her grandchildren. She was a homemaker who loved her family and loved to prepare big meals for special get togethers.
She is survived by her sons Mark (Nancy) Fortune of Coshocton, Shawn (Lori) Fortune of Wisconsin, and Brent (Sheri) Fortune of Coshocton; daughter Dana (Randy) Walsh of Coshocton; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters Sara Schlarb and Sandra (Tom) Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Pinky” Fortune, who she married October 17, 1964, Pinky passed on April 10, 2019; great grandson Edge Johnson; and two brothers Gaylon and Rolland “Gene” Wilson.
Friends may call at the Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812 on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm with one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Saturday at 11:00am with Pastor Aaron Mencer officiating. Internment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be directed towards Roscoe United Methodist Church and/or Nationwide Childrens Hospital; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
