Cardinal Chorale set to sponsor concert series

| July 6, 2023

Summer is homecoming time for The Cardinal Chorale, which will host its annual music workshop on the campus of Muskingum University from July 15-22.

“We are thrilled to return for our eighth summer with high school and collegiate singers, providing a rich musical experience and forming lasting friendships,” said Charles R. Snyder, founder and artistic director of the statewide honor choir. “And right alongside that mission, we have the chance to provide opportunities for the community at large to celebrate the importance music carries in our lives with our annual concert series.”

Evening concert events will be held in the Sandra Wolfe Thompson Theatre in Philip and Betsey Caldwell Hall on the campus of Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, as detailed below, open to the general public. There is no ticket required for admission; however, the Cardinal Chorale is happy to receive monetary gifts to support the mission of the concert series and the Workshop.

The headliner of the week will be noted singer, songwriter, song leader, activist and John F. Kennedy Center educator Reggie Harris. His presentation, “Songs of Hope and Freedom!” brings powerful selections like “Eyes on the Prize,” “Wade in the Water,” “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round,” “We Shall Overcome,” “Oh, Freedom,” and “This Little Light of Mine,” – songs that kept a community of people together to exercise their rights as US citizens in the face of the long struggle for human rights.

With a repertoire that spans genres from traditional spirituals and songs of civil and human rights to his insightful original offerings, “Reggie is more than a concert. He’s a musical ambassador who represents the very best of music as a positive life force.”

This world-traveling troubadour brings a deep reservoir of experience, energy and power to any stage, inspiring audiences of all ages at colleges, festivals, arts centers and for a host of cultural and faith based venues throughout the US, Canada, and Europe.  As a vibrant force in international folk and acoustic music circles for over 40 years, Reggie has been featured on CNN and in the NY Times as someone who appreciates how much the world needs the power of music to lift our spirits, and to stay connected as an inclusive community in these challenging times.
