Cover crops to be flown today
Fisher Crop Care by Air will be applying cover crop seed to corn and soybean fields and the pilots fly very close to the ground and make several passes to ensure good seed coverage. The pilots only drop seed from the plane; no herbicides or pesticides are being used. This seed will germinate and begin growing before the crop is harvested this fall. The purpose of the cover crop program is to provide cover on fields over the winter months to prevent soil erosion and improve soil health.
More than 800 acres will be seeded from the Richard Downing Airport and should be completed in a day. Weather permitting; the date for flying cover crops is today, Wednesday, Sept. 6, working from daylight until dark.
The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to coordinate this program for the eleventh year in cooperation with local landowners and the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.
