Fire damages Keene UMC

On Feb, 1, 2024, at approximately 1:35 p.m. Three Rivers Fire District responded to a reported structure fire at Keene United Methodist Church located at 27100 County Road 1 in the village of Keene.

Upon arrival of fire personnel, a working structure fire was found in the third story of the church extending into the attic. An initial search of the church found it to be unoccupied and fire suppression was initiated immediately. A quick initial attack on the fire contained fire spread to the third story with smoke and water damage throughout the church.

The initial caller was reported to be a neighbor and no injuries were reported.

Assisting Three Rivers Fire District was Coshocton Fire Department, Jackson Township Fire, West Lafayette Fire Department, Walhonding Valley Fire District, Franklin Virginia Conesville Fire Department, Bakersville Fire Department, Baltic Fire Department, Holmes District 1, Newcomerstown Fire Department, Killbuck Fire Department, Coshocton County EMS, Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office, Coshocton County REACT and the Salvation Army.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Three Rivers Fire District, The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office and Coshocton Fire Investigation Unit.
