Time to order veterans’ banners for Memorial Day

| February 14, 2024

Before Memorial Day, several streets in Coshocton, Conesville, and West Lafayette will be lined with veteran’s banners. This year, Warsaw and Plainfield will be joining in honoring those who served our country.

Since the program began, around 100 banners have been purchased. The banners are made of vinyl and include the veteran’s name, branch of service and a picture. Last year, the banners hung across Three Rivers Bridge in the spring and by fall, enough had been purchased to line the bridge and around the court square in Coshocton, as well as on Main Street in West Lafayette.

Robert Moore said that there is about a two week turn around once the banners are ordered. “I try and order at least once a month, or if I have 10 or more orders, then I will order sooner. When the banners are given to the city or village, then they will hang them when they have time.” Moore said that the banners will not be hung in the same place every time.

The banners are taken down for the winter, as the cold will cause damage to the vinyl. They will be on display for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. The banners may be left up if nothing else needs to be displayed.

All veterans on display must have been a resident of Coshocton County at some point. When the banner is ordered, please choose which city or village you would like the banner displayed. You will need to provide a picture and either a DD214 showing honorable discharge, a valid veteran ID or Specified Armed Forces on the driver’s license. However, if these are not available, such as for a veteran of a World War, Moore may be able to confirm the veteran’s identity. Contact him for any questions you may have.

Each banner is $55 and is double sided. Yard signs and banners for private use can also be purchased. To obtain an application to order a banner, email veteranbannerprogram@yahoo.com or call Moore at 740-294-7413.
