Meet Jackson from the LCC Class of 2024
Mary Jackson was born and raised in Liberty, Texas, a small town not unlike Coshocton, southeast of Houston.
Following graduation from Liberty High School Jackson enlisted in the Army in 1995. She attended basic training in Fort Jackson, SC and then went to Fort Lee, VA for training as an automatic logistics specialist.
Upon graduation, her first duty station was the 2nd Brigade, Fourth Infantry Division at Fort Hood Texas. There she met her husband, Travis, who was also serving and from Warsaw. They married in 1996 and not long after were both sent to serve in Korea. They returned after a year to Fort Hood where Mary served the rest of her enlistment. Additional locations include Pearl Harbor, HI; Fort Campbell, KY; and Fort Belvoir, VA. Later, recognizing that her husband was going to a unit frequently deployed, she moved to Coshocton to be a stay-at-home mom with their three children while her husband served out the rest of his enlistment and retired.
During this time, Mary was very involved in her children’s lives and activities, such as Scouting, Coshocton PTO and Relay for Life. When her youngest started school, Mary went to work; first at H&R Block doing taxes, and then was hired as a temporary employee with McWane Ductile as an inventory control scheduler. In 2012 she was hired on full-time as a customer service representative for six years before moving to the accounting department in 2018 as an accounting clerk. Mary was then promoted in 2022 to her current position as a payroll accountant. She stated that she “appreciates the opportunity to have held these different positions” at McWane Ductile and “being able to see the different aspects of the departments within the company.”
In her payroll accountant position, her primary responsibility is to process payroll for salaried and hourly employees in three different divisions of McWane Ductile – Ohio; New Jersey and Utah. She also supervises two employees – an accounting clerk and receptionist. Within McWane, she serves on the Clow Veteran’s Group and the McWane Ductile VPP Wellness Committee.
Outside of the committees for McWane, Mary has not been involved with many organizations since her children have graduated. She enjoyed Relay for Life, and would like to get back involved within the community.
Mary decided to go through Leadership Coshocton County to “learn more about the community” since she didn’t grow up here. She would hear people talking about places but not know what they were referring to. Being in leadership helps her become more familiar with the community. In addition, as a new supervisor, she wants to gain knowledge and improve her leadership skills so she can be the best supervisor she can be for her employees and employer. She has enjoyed “learning her personality style and how to build on that; learning about herself and ways to improve herself to be a better person; supervisor and employee.” She also looks forward to meeting more of the leadership in Coshocton County.
Of the community Mary said, “It’s like any small town – everyone knows everyone. But people here work together for a common goal and they team up together to achieve that goal. Knowing each other can help with this.”
To make Coshocton County stronger, Mary said, “It’s the same thing that will make it weaker: the people. Who we put in power to make those decisions; being informed and working together; keeping involved. Share your voice and opinion when you see something you can help with.”
Mary “100%” would recommend, and has recommended, Leadership Coshocton for others. “We’ve learned a lot. I’ve met different people in the community in different careers. It’s interesting to talk with them and learn about what they do.”
Mary said, “I appreciate the support of McWane Ductile to do this. I’m glad it was offered and I took the opportunity.”
