The Rock Ministry Kids host sports event

The Rock Ministry Kids of Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church hosted a free Sports Day on June 29 at the Himebaugh Lot.

The event featured several sports stations offering a choice of basketball, volleyball, soccer, running, cheerleading, wrestling, and football. All children from the community were welcome to play and a sack lunch was provided.

“A mixture of church and neighborhood kids came out,” said Vickie Davis, leader of The Rock Ministry. “Basketball seems to be the thing here today. The littler kids seem to be enjoying the swings so we’ve got some swingers.”

Hunter Dunlop thought of the idea to reach out to the community with a sports event and brought it up to Davis. “I like sports because my grandpa played sports and my dad played sports,” Dunlop said. “So, I decided to start something with playing sports and I have really come to like it. It’s kind of a family tradition, my grandpa John Dunlop coached Coshocton basketball and played basket ball at Kenyon and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Davis said, “The Rock Ministry is based on the scripture from of Luke 19:40 where it says if we don’t cry out the rocks will. So we are the rocks and we are crying out to the community.”
