FCA students host church service at Ridgewood
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes FCA hosted Faith on the Field at Ridgewood High School’s football field Sunday morning July 28. This is the fifth year for this student led worship service.
John Strasser, area FCA representative said, “As I was coming here today the fog was lifting and the sun was starting to shine. It let me know how blessed we are to have a beautiful day. We have a great worship team. What makes this FCA different is that it is student led and it can’t happen without students who are willing to step up and share their faith.”
Student leaders from each school shared their name, school, grade and a favorite FCA memory. Courtney Snyder a senior at Coshocton High School said her favorite memory was the Christmas party every year. Her favorite memory this year was doing a cool thing with panty hose and balloons where they put them on their head and it made you look like you had big ears. Her favorite part of the service was hearing from the other students and the worship music.
Playing guitar has really helped Caden Norman from Newcomerstown grow in his faith. River View senior Logan Fisher liked racing kayaks on the river at Mohican. The normal time was three hours, and they did it in an hour and a half. Most of the students said FCA helped them grow with God and have a personal relationship with Him.
Keynote speaker Alexis Starkey spoke about finding peace and tranquility in your life using the Bible story of Job’s trials and struggles when he lost everything. “He was angry with God, and Elijah tells Job that God does speak to us even though we don’t physically hear him. After praying for his friends, the Lord restored everything in the end and blessed him with twice as much as he had before.”
“What lessons can we learn from the book of Job?” she asked “To have strong faith in adversity and human suffering. Acknowledge that good people can suffer. God’s sovereignty encourages humility and trust, and the role of friends shows true empathy and support. Knowledge is power. Keep your faith and trust that there is a bigger plan. Be a good friend and support friends in times of trouble. Recognize that suffering is a part of life and even when you feel completely alone God is there to guide you every step of the way. Keep your faith, pray, read the Bible and surround yourself with people of faith, worship and do acts of kindness.”
Strasser said, “We started this event five years ago. The kids wanted to have a service for FCA’s Unite on a Sunday morning and invite all the churches to come. It is all student led. Alexis Starkey has been working on this message for about four months. The kids are excited about it and today it looks like people are coming, but we are not about numbers. It is about watching these young people share their faith and get excited about Jesus. We are going to continue to do it every year. We tried it on a Sunday night and didn’t have many people so we will continue to do it on Sunday morning.”
