Together Again

Charles Daniel “Dan” Markley, age 86, of West Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.  He was born on November 18, 1937, in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Eugene Charles and Nancy Ruth (Parks) Markley.

Dan was a 1955 graduate of Coshocton High School and on August 26, 1956, he married June (Moore) Markley. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage before she passed away on June 21, 2023.

He was a longtime employee at Cyclops before retiring. Dan was a life member of the West Lafayette First Baptist Church and was very involved within the community. Dan was a local Historian, a 4-H Advisor, a member of the West Lafayette Rotary Club, the West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce; a longtime Fair Board member and fair enthusiast; Dan also enjoyed trains and photography.

Dan is survived by his three children, Jo Ellen (Marc) Gellart of Lima, David (Darla) Markley of West Lafayette and Tim (Kelly) Markley of Sunbury; four grandchildren, Dana (Nathan) Ross, Drew (Brianne) Markley, Kendall Markley, and Kate Markley; one sister, Nancy Cupps of Chippewa Lake, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, Dan was preceded in death by his infant son Chuck, who passed away in 1958 and his sister, Sharon (Gary) Carpenter.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ken Smailes officiating. Burial followed at Fairfield Cemetery.
