Power-House Cruise on Main to benefit courthouse illumination project

| August 7, 2024

Saturday, Aug. 24 will be a fun day in Coshocton. The Courthouse Illumination Project will be hold its first Power-House Cruise on Main as a fundraiser to make the Christmas light show on the courthouse even better.

Registration for the car show will begin at 2 p.m. Cars will be lined up along Main Street for everyone to enjoy. From 4:30 – 6 p.m. local band Obsidian Eyes will be performing at the artPARK.

At 6 p.m. registered vehicles can do a burn-out on Main Street. Depending on how many participants there are, vehicles may be able to do more than one burn-out. Awards will follow the burn-outs.

When it gets dark, approximately 8:30 p.m., the courthouse will be lit up and all vehicles will cruise down Main Street to the “wheel” at the corner of Main and Second streets, where they will make a U-turn and come back up Main. The cars will be lit up, too. The courthouse light show will continue until 10 p.m.

According to Mary Beck, administrator for the Coshocton County Commissioners, there will be around 10 vendors set up and four to six food trucks. There will also be a bounce house, 50/50 raffle and t-shirts and hats for sale. All proceeds will go to the courthouse illumination project.

Beck said that a Yeti cooler and several kinds of alcohol were donated to be raffled off. “The prize has a value of $800 and we are only selling 400 tickets.” Tickets can be purchased that day.

“Have patience with us,” Beck said. “This is our first time doing this and we are getting more advice every day on how to do it best. We are hoping this will grow into something that will continue each year to fund the light show.”

“The Courthouse itself is the pride of our community,” she said. “There is nothing like this light show in Coshocton County and we wanted to be able to showcase our courthouse while also offering a chance for our residents and the surrounding communities to come and enjoy it, too. We are hoping this is a great first step to help revitalize Coshocton and bring Main Street back to what it once was.”
