Meet Wesney from the Leadership Coshocton County Class of 2025
Brittany Wesney was raised in Warsaw and graduated from River View Local Schools in 2006. During her junior and senior years, she participated in the post-secondary (CCP) program at Ohio University-Zanesville, where she focused on general studies receiving the equivalent of an associate’s degree. Following her graduation, Wesney dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom for 13 years. After becoming a single parent, she was determined to further her education. She enrolled in online courses at Indiana Wesleyan University and, after three years of hard work, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Throughout this period, she balanced raising her four children while also juggling three jobs.
Wesney had been friends with Dustin and Amanda Klein as their children went to school together, and they were very supportive of her while she completed her education. She began working full-time for Hathaway Inc. over five years ago as the office assistant. In this role, she answers phones; is responsible for accounts payable and overseeing payroll; filing and typing up quotes; ordering supplies and maintaining the cleanliness of the office. She assists Amanda as-needed; where-needed and they each help the other in their roles. “Hathaway is very flexible; family is more important than anything with all of their employees,” Wesney said. She couldn’t ask for a better company to work for.
Wesney, being a mother of four, dedicates her time to supporting her children by attending their games and participating in all their activities. Their busy schedules filled with sports, 4-H, and various other pursuits keep her on her toes. She is eager to explore different volunteer opportunities in the community and is passionate about contributing to the well-being of the community and its residents in any way possible.
Wesney chose to participate in Leadership Coshocton after hearing about Amanda’s positive experience with the program. She thought it seemed like a great fit for her. Wesney was eager to deepen her understanding of the community she has called home for her entire life and to discover more ways to get involved.
Wesney, like many others, values the strong sense of community in Coshocton. While some may express a desire to leave, the way people come together to support one another is truly special. In this town, everyone knows each other and is eager to lend a hand, something that larger cities often lack. As a single mom, Wesney credits the community for helping her raise her family. She feels that her friends here are more like family. Since becoming a single parent, she has witnessed the immense love and support not just for her, but also for her children. There’s always someone cheering her on, and she believes that in a bigger city, she wouldn’t have experienced the same level of support over the past six years. “I often remind my kids that while I may not be able to be there for every moment, there’s always someone I know looking out for them when I can’t.”
When asked what would make the county stronger Wesney said, “More support of local businesses. As a business practice, Hathaway prides itself in using other local businesses for their building materials. If other businesses and agencies would do the same the county as a whole would benefit.”
Wesney highly recommends Leadership Coshocton to others. “Initially, I believed it was only for CEOs or those advancing in their careers, but it’s truly for anyone looking to enhance their leadership abilities,” she said. “This program has shown me how to embrace leadership in every area of my life, not just in my job. Leadership is something everyone can embody. I aspire to be a role model for others, particularly my children.” The experience has encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone, revealing insights about herself that she might not have discovered otherwise.
Wesney takes great pride in her children. “They mean the world to me, and everything I do is for them,” she said. “I want them to have a better life than I have. They are my top priority, and I’m always there to support them. Being a mom is what I’m most proud of.”
