Are you going to make it to the big white tent? What’s that you ask? Why the Ohio Chautauqua performances at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear some very talented performers tell “their” story from a first person perspective. When this event occurred during our Bicentennial in 2011, the tent was filled despite very hot and humid evenings. This year’s weather promises to be cooler so come on out and learn about early Ohio history. You’ll be glad you did.

Did you watch Phil Mickelson win the British Open? As the breezes blew in from the Firth of Forth, (say that five times quick) Mickelson birdied four of his final six holes to capture the title. Now just the heartbreaking losses at the U.S. Open are the open spot in Mickelson’s trophy case.

Work is soon to begin on Chestnut Street – so prepare you for some traffic delays that will be more than offset by the improvement for our community.

Happy with the moves made by the Cavaliers? Let’s keep hoping.

The Reds are in third place, the Indians are in second but only a game back of Detroit and the Pirates finally won a game, yet they are only two games behind St. Louis.

Moving on to the ice, the Blue Jackets move into the Eastern Conference for the 2013-2014 season. They will be facing the Islanders, Penguins, Carolina, New Jersey, Philadelphia and more with the move. Sounds like loads of fun!

The Coshocton Canal Festival is just around the corner with the Grande Parade slated for Saturday evening, August 10. Then we shift our attention toward school starting (sorry kids and teachers!), then comes football and the fair. Time flies when you’re having fun and summertime in Coshocton County is just one ice cream social and event after another.

Speaking of ice cream socials, there are some ice cream scoopers at these events that bring their very own hand carved, engraved, diamond encrusted scooper. Yes, they are that good. Now maybe I exaggerate somewhat but someone told me that Keene has such a person, Roscoe is not far behind, and we have heard that Canal Lewisville keeps their scoop locked up. And that’s just a few of the Methodist churches. It’s hard to say what other denominations may or may not do. Watch the Beacon community calendar for information on when and where the various ice cream socials are occurring. Summer isn’t over yet!
