Local Bounty Update

| August 9, 2013

local bountyCOSHOCTON – From the looks of the market bins, produce season is in full swing (finally!). Our vendors have filled the market with tons of fruits and veggies this week – watermelon, cucumbers, sweet corn, tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers (a variety of choices). Oh, and SALAD GREENS!

Carson House Farm – the Lozowskis

Lamb and Jersey beef are still in good supply – all grass fed, pasture raised, no hormones, no antibiotics. The vegetables are finally coming in full force.  Cantaloupe will be ready and tomatoes. Fresh greens, cucumbers, Brussels sprouts and hopefully some sweet corn will be ready also. We’ll have peppers, onions and some fresh herbs too – sounds like salsa time! Carson House Farm, as always, naturally grown and raised.

Keene Creek Farm – the Mulletts

This week we stocked up the cooler with lots of herbs – basil (sweet and purple), dill, Rosemary and chives. Chop them up and add them to some Pearl Valley butter for an exceptionally flavorful butter (put on top of steak, veggies, etc.). Our pork supply continues to diminish; but we’ve still got a good selection of brats (Cajun, fresh, and cheese), breakfast sausage, loin chops (bone out) – all so, so good on the grill.

Wholesome Valley Farm

Have plans to make some homemade ice cream this weekend? Grab some of our whole milk from Local Bounty – it will make the creamiest, yummiest ice cream in the world. Also, don’t forget about our complete line of raw goat cheese products (feta, Colby, garlic herb, cheddar and Gouda).

Windy Hill Berry Farm & Vineyard – the Zelones

We are so honored to have been asked this week to provide the Kid’s Cooking Class at Local Bounty with blackberries, strawberries and tomatoes. Hopefully the kids enjoyed making their own fruit salsa! (We have more fruit at the farm if any of you folks want to pick your own.) This week we are bringing heirloom tomatoes, mountain fresh tomatoes, zucchini… grill it, stuff it, shred it (hide it in meatloaf–the kids will never know) and bake it (again, hide it, this time in chocolate cake–the kids will never know), reg. and pickle cucumbers, red onions, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, fresh rosemary and other herbs (check out the large cooler), free range eggs, and English muffins. Chicken joke of the week:  Which day of the week do chickens hate most? Fry-day!

Farm to Table Dinner

Have you made your reservations for our Farm to Table Dinner on Saturday, August 24 yet? If not, you’ll want to soon. We’re partnering with Clary Gardens to bring this unique dining experience to the area. Local acclaimed Chef Mike Cichon will prepare a meal using only locally grown foods. We’ll serve local wine (Shawnee Springs) and you’ll enjoy some live music from the Dotson Brothers in the outdoor venue of Clary Gardens. This is a fund-raising event (proceeds to benefit Local Bounty and Clary Gardens). To reserve your seat, contact Chris Campbell at 622-6524 or 502-0575. If you’re a vegetarian, no problem! Just let Chris know when you register and we’ll happily make something to accommodate you.

Many thanks for your continued support.
