Veteran Pete Hanson returns as the Christos at the LWOD
CAMBRIDGE – Pete Hanson, long-time resident of Guernsey County, is returning to the Living Word Outdoor Drama in the Christos role for the 2013 season.
Hanson portrayed the Christos from 1984 up through 2011, at which time he retired from that role. He missed the performances for one year when he was in active duty after the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in New York. Hanson spent that year in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in the Military Police Unit Number 447th out of Zanesville. He also spent the next year (2003) in Iraq starting in the military police unit. Upon finding that Hanson was a registered nurse, he was assigned to serve his time as a combat medic. Back home in Byesville, he and his wife, Pat, have been members of the Byesville Assembly of God for 32 years.
Hanson’s three children have followed in his footsteps in serving in the military. Erik Hanson spent six years in active duty in the army and completed the DEA academy at Quantico, Va. He is presently a special agent with the DEA. Matthew Hanson has been in the Army National Guard for 15 years, serving in Iraq for one year and in Afghanistan for another year. Matthew completed the Border Patrol Academy in New Mexico and is presently serving as a Border Patrol Special Agent. Daughter Dr. Maria Hanson Willey served for eight years in the Army Reserves, and is presently a nurse practitioner in Lexington, Ky.
The LWOD is proud of the depths of talent and Christian values that Hanson brings to the production and the history of service that he and his family has provided to their community and their country. The community will be able to see Hanson on these dates at the Living Word Outdoor Drama: Aug. 23, 24, 30 and Sept. 20, 21, or 27.
To commemorate the return of Hanson and to honor his family’s service, as well as all local veterans and military forces the Living Word is designating Friday, Sept. 20 as Military Day, and extends a complimentary pass to veterans and active military persons, with half-price to their immediate family members. The veterans will be greeted in the introduction before the performance, and will meet with Hanson at the end of the show at the top of the hill. Rain date for the event will be Friday, Sept. 27.
