COSHOCTON – Work has started on a monument to honor all coal miners and pay respect to those who died in mining accidents in Coshocton County.

The monument will be located at the court square on the corner of Third and Chestnut streets and Kobel’s was at the site Sept. 18 doing brick work.

Sam Bennett has led fundraising efforts for the memorial, which will include a marble monument, a bronze statue of a coal miner, landscaping around both and brick paths to the area.

A dedication for the memorial is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. For information about the project, visit www.coalminersmemorialfund.org.
