COTC to offer active shooter training
COSHOCTON – Active shooter/aggressor training will be offered at COTC’s Coshocton Campus from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
The session will focus on the ALICE concepts of Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Escape while stressing empowerment of individuals not to become a victim. A presentation on Verbal Judo for Customer Service will also be presented to demonstrate how to deliver effective responses for de-escalation of emotional customer service interactions.
Both training sessions will be delivered by Denny Hollern, police lieutenant in The Ohio State University Police Division and Public Safety Supervisor for The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College. Lt. Hollern has 34 years of experience in law enforcement as a police officer, 20 years as a detective investigating violent crime and 25 years as a SWAT team member and later as a SWAT Team Commander. Lt. Hollern has responded to several active shooter/aggressor incidents throughout his career and was recognized in 2009 by the OSU Police Division with the Valor Award, the highest individual award an officer can receive.
