There are those that continue to sprout, “There is nothing to do in this town.” Of course, they would be so very wrong. Here is just a small sample of what you could have enjoyed for just a small investment in your community, kids or yourself for that matter this past weekend.

You could have enjoyed a leisurely dinner cruise on the Canal Boat this past Saturday evening. You could have cruised the fairgrounds on Saturday looking at the restored vehicles, taken the family to the rough truck contest at the fairgrounds on Saturday evening (and many did), enjoyed a wonderful youth performance at the Triple Locks Theatre over the weekend, or listened to Christian rock band, DecembeRadio at the Coshocton Airport Amphitheater on Saturday evening with beautiful skies overhead.

And that is only a small sample. For many, the kids are involved in sports, music, 4-H, scouting, church or other wholesome activities that give the kids some time away from the electronic and Facebook world, if even for a short time. This is important.

Some of our youth and counselors are preparing to sing their way into the hearts and minds of state fair goers at the Ohio State Fair. I know they will represent our community to a high degree.

For those that missed the performance by DecembeRadio at the Airport Amphitheater on Saturday evening, you missed a great time. More of our area youth should have been in attendance. This was an ideal opportunity for area church youth groups and others to share in a positive message and listen to a good band in a wonderful, healthy, safe venue. Hopefully, we can bring DecembeRadio back another time.

Now, let’s shift gears real quick to another summertime favorite; baseball. Do I hear correctly that the Reds are in first place? Of course, not the Indians. Well, we’ll take one of the two.

Are you ready for the Ohio State Fair? Olympics? I predict that the U.S.A. will capture the most medals and of course, the most gold medals. We have the talent, coaches and the money. But watch the Chinese. They will want to make a statement on the world stage. Of course, they already did by making some of our uniforms. They’re the ones laughing all the way to the bank, as the saying goes. Disagree? Send me an email.

I have purposely tuned out and turned off the various talk television stations at this time. I am not sure I will be able to continue that as I am always wondering what is being said, fabricated, twisted or misrepresented. Oh, now I remember why I tuned out.
